The Kawarthas Early Bird Prize Cottage is the Ultimate Retreat - Here’s Why!

There’s nothing like a getaway to cottage country for escaping the daily grind, relaxing and  making memories that will last a lifetime!

One lucky ticket holder can look forward to creating their own special memories as the new owner of the luxury lakefront cottage in The Kawarthas Early Bird Prize beginning this summer!

Check out our list of the top 5 things that will keep you, your friends and your family coming back to the cottage again and again!

Cozy Up in the Early Bird Cottage and Get your Game On

We know the Great Room is going to be an amazing space for entertaining but for chilly evenings or rainy days, the cozy recreation area in the lower level will be the place to hang out.

Pull out a board game and go head-to-head for family bragging rights! Anyone not feeling competitive can curl up on the couch with their phone (or even a book!). And those who just can’t sit still can get their energy out with a rousing game of ping pong!

Unplug and Get Back to Nature

You will definitely want to spend time outdoors at beautiful Buckhorn Lake!

Hike the local conservation area or one of the many parks nearby. For a real walk on the wild side, head into the interior of Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park.

For a less rugged excursion, enjoy the expansive deck at the cottage with a cup of coffee and take in nature all around you!

Take the Butter Tart Tour

The Butter Tart is one of the true delicacies of Ontario, and some of the very best are made in the area!

The town of Buckhorn is a stop on one of the Butter Tart Tour routes. (Country Mart Bakery - check it out!) Spend a sweet road trip that starts and possibly ends with a Butter Tart! Plan to get an early start before they sell out!

Cruise the Trent-Severn

If you’d rather travel by water, go for a cruise! Buckhorn Lake is connected to the Trent-Severn Waterway, a 386 km paradise for boaters. Explore seemingly endless lakes, rivers, and canals for hours or days! One highlight of this waterway is the incredible Peterborough Lift Lock, which will scoop up your boat and lift it 20 metres to the next level of the canal.

Don’t own a boat? No problem! There are many places to rent one near Buckhorn. (Or, you could use the $50,000 prize money to buy your own!)

Enjoy All the Lake Has to Offer

There’s more to Buckhorn Lake than just boating! If you love swimming, the beautiful water will be calling you all summer long. Cannonball from your very own dock, or wade along the shore. The choice will be yours. (Or do them both!)
